Pilot Playlist – 101 of the Best Tunes to H&C to
Welcome to the first (and for some, long-awaited) DeannaCat playlist! This is a mix of this and that ~ the stuff we’re currently enjoying listening to. I tried to include a decent variety for this pilot playlist. A little something for everyone, maybe? Going forward, I intend to create more mixes in addition to genre-specific and mood playlists. You can most definitely look forward to a reggae/rub mix, a yoga/meditation mix, and so on!
If you are paying attention over on Instagram, you’ve probably already gathered that music plays a significant role on our Homestead! Whether we are working out in the garden, cookin’ it up in the kitchen, relaxing, reading, cleaning, or doing yoga, the tunes are pretty much always on.
A common love of music is one thing that drew Aaron and I together from the start. Some of our first dates and trips revolved around live music, and going to shows is still our absolute favorite way to spend a date out! Long before Aaron, my mom raised me as a music addict, since she is one herself! All of my childhood memories have a soundtrack. I’ve been making playlists for parties, friends, road trips, and even workplaces since the days of Napster.
Music is such a special, mood-enhancing, memory-building, body-moving, mind-freeing, spirit-lifting thing. Aside from the garden, music is my therapy. It is what keeps me sane. Maybe you feel the same?
Our Set-Up
There have been a lot of questions of our “music set-up” – how we play our music, and why it sounds so nice (and sometimes, loud…) both inside and outside. To be honest, we prefer Pandora and generally use that, but I finally joined Spotify… just for you guys!
We have several wireless Sonos speakers throughout the house. They’re the best! Some are in rooms that face the back yard garden, one towards the coop garden, and one towards the front yard garden. The speakers are controlled through the Sonos app on my phone, and each speakers volume can be turned up and down independently. This is a wonderful and necessary feature, because it means we can choose to only bump music loudly out towards whatever yard space we’re currently hanging out in, easily changing it as we move from space to space, rather than keeping the entire house (and neighborhood) rockin’. Thankfully, the neighbors like our taste in music and never complain! We do try to be respectful of course.
Okay, enough about all that. You’re here to listen, not read.
I hope you enjoy the music, find some new artists to follow, and savor the good vibes!

Thank you for this post! I’m excited to listen to your play list. I have been dying inside lately because my music repertoire is so sad these days and I can never come up with anything that moves my soul. I have tried searching Youtube for conscious music which is always reggae (I love, but can only listen to so much) I even chased my yoga instructor down this morning to ask her what track she was playing (it was buti yoga so pretty dance-worthy) Then the universe brought me to you, lol. I am on off-grid vegetarian homesteader (almost three years) and have just started working on my social media and blog presence (can you say overwhelmed?). Your gardens are gorgeous, your website is fantastic. I’m super inspired and excited to see more of your work! And listen to that play list π Wholeness

Hey Sparrow! I hope you enjoy the tunes! They’re definitely what moves my soul. It sounds like you are living the dream over there! I am jealous! Do you have a lot of land to play on? Welcome, and thanks for saying hi!
Sparrow
We do have lots of land (70 acres) which is good for me because I am such an introverted woods’ hippy with a slight paranoia of nosy neighbors. Funny you mentioned being jealous because when I look at all your gorgeous photos, I’m like.. no fair, where’s the mud?? Loved the play list!
